چکیده

This paper describes an automated method for creating accurate 2D floor plan models of building interiors. Our approach takes as input a 3D point cloud, which is obtained from laser scanners positioned at multiple locations in the facility. We use a histogram of height data to detect floor and ceiling data. We then project the remaining points onto a 2D ground plane and create a histogram of point density, from which line segments corresponding to walls are extracted using a Hough transform. Openings due to doors and windows arise implicitly from the modeling process. Our algorithm operates in unmodified, cluttered environments. We also propose a set of evaluation measures for objectively measuring floor plan modeling algorithm performance. Finally, we propose strategies for mitigating the effect of clutter through strategic selection of cross-sections containing minimal clutter. Our experiments on data from a 40-room school building achieve promising

A Constrained Growth Method for Procedural Floor Plan Generation

Modern games often feature highly detailed urban environments. However, buildings are typically represented only by their façade, because of the excessive costs it would entail to manually model all interiors. Although automated procedural techniques for building interiors exist, their application is to date limited. One of the reasons for this is because designers have too little control over ...

Numerical Evaluation of Progressive Collapse Potential in Reinforced Concrete Buildings with Various Floor Plans Due to Single Column Removal

Progressive collapse is defined as the spread of an initial damage from one member to another, leading to extensive partial or total collapse of the structure. In this research, the potential of progressive collapse due to a sudden removal of vertical load-bearing elements in reinforced concrete buildings structures with different floor plans such as geometrical regular and irregular floor plan...

A novel approach to 2D drawings-based reconstruction of 3D building digital models

There is an opportunity to significantly impact building energy efficiency through BIM-enabled, simulation-intensive, cost-effective renovation actions. One major hurdle however is the lack of 3D digital models for the majority of existing buildings. Cost-effective and widely applicable methods and tools are required for the reconstruction of 3D digital models from available information. In thi...

Plans and Planning in Narrative Generation: A Review of Plan-Based Approaches to the Generation of Story, Dis- course and Interactivity in Narratives

The last ten years have seen a significant increase in computationally relevant research seeking to build models of narrative and its use. These efforts have focused in and/or drawn from a range of disciplines, including narrative theory Many of these research efforts have been informed by a focus on the development of an explicit model of narrative and its function. Computational approaches fr...
